Protein S Activity
Fasting Required: No

Specimen: Blood

Results: 7-10 business days

Methodology: Clot Detection

Description: Protein S is one of the many vital proteins in the human body. It works to control the blood clotting process. The blood's ability to clot is very important. It helps prevent excessive blood loss when an injury occurs. However, a blood clot in an artery or a vein (called thrombosis) can be extremely dangerous.

The congenital or acquired deficiency of Protein S increases the risk for thromboembolism, owing to a decrease of blood anticoagulant potential. It results in recurring thrombotic episodes. A decrease of Protein S leads to a greater risk of thromboembolism.
