Please note: Norethindrone acetate/Norethisterone acetate is known to interfere with the measurement of estrone using the Quest Diagnostics LC-MS/MS method. This test should not be used to quantitate estrone in patients taking this drug.

Description: Estrogens are 18-carbon steroids secreted by the gonads, adrenal glands, and placenta. The principle estrogens are estradiol (E2), estrone (E1), and estriol (E3). E2 is the major estrogen produced by the ovaries. E1 is derived from peripheral conversion from gonadal and adrenal androstenedione. E3 is the major placental estrogen. The major circulating estrogens in non-pregnant women are E2 and E1.
