Tetanus Antitoxoid Ab (Titer)
Fasting Required: No

Specimen: Blood

Results: 3-5 Business Days

Assess immunity against tetanus. Tetanus is a severe and potentially fatal disease that is described by generalized increased stiffness and violent spasms of skeletal muscles. The spores enter the body through breaks in the skin, and grow under low-oxygen conditions.

Puncture wounds and wounds with a major amount of tissue injury are more likely to stimulate growth. The muscle stiffness usually first involves the jaw (lockjaw) and neck, and later becomes widespread throughout the body. Tetanus cannot be caught from other people.

Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA)

This test was developed and its performance characteristics have been determined by Quest Diagnostics. It has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The FDA has determined that such clearance or approval is not necessary. Performance characteristics refer to the analytical performance of the test.

Reference Range(s):
>0.15 IU/mL (Healthy Immunized)

Clinical Significance:
Tetanus is caused by Clostridium tetani. Immunization with Tetanus Antitoxoid is effective with boosters. This test assesses Tetanus Antitoxoid Antibody following booster immunization. Immunization supports an intact humoral antibody response.

Note: Result turn around times are an estimate and are not guaranteed. Our reference lab may need additional time due to weather, holidays, confirmation/repeat testing, or equipment maintenance.
