Mycoplasma Pneumoniae Antibodies (IgG, IgM))
Fasting Required: No

Specimen: Blood

Results: 3-5 Business Days

Description: Aid in the diagnosis of atypical pneumonia (caused by bacteria), which is a cause of community-acquired pneumonia. Usually occurs in younger age groups and may be associated with neurological and systemic (e.g. rashes) symptoms. Primary infection usually occurs in children and reinfection in adults is common.

Methodology: Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA)

Limitations: IgM antibody testing is valuable for early diagnosis in children; in adults, paired sera for specific IgG and IgM are generally required together with PCR. Specific IgM antibodies are often absent in reinfections; specific IgA might be quite useful in this circumstance.

Note: Result turnaround times are an estimate and are not guaranteed. Our reference lab may need additional time due to weather, holidays, confirmation/repeat testing, or equipment maintenance.
